PACIFIC UNIVERSITY

The University Old College Hall had a cedar shake roof that started leaking after 17 years. When it came time to replace the roof on this historic building, the head of maintenance knew the look would need to stay the same but wanted improved durability. After receiving two high bids for new cedar shakes, we provided information and pricing on CeDUR Composite Shakes – an innovative polyurethane-based synthetic shake shingle that replicates the look of real wood shakes. With the ability to match the color, grain patterns, and texture of cedar while providing extreme durability and weather resistance, the officials approved CeDUR as their roofing solution that could retain the building’s classic aesthetic. We installed the CeDUR shakes using proper techniques to mirror the staggered appearance of a real cedar roof. The shakes’ Class 4 Impact Rating and lightweight design at just 170 pounds per square were an improvement over the Cedar shakes that were previously on the roof. The CeDUR shakes’ Class A Fire Rating provided critical fire safety, while also providing a 50 Year Lifetime Limited Material Warranty. The existing copper gutter system on the building required coordinating with a sheet metal contractor to preserve functionality and, we rebuilt the historic bell tower with precision carpentry work so it looks as good or better than it did before as our way to honor and protect Old College Hall’s rich legacy. Now 3 years since installation, the maintenance manager confirms the CeDUR roof continues performing with no issues – just as promised. The university’s goals were met by choosing a durable, ultra-realistic cedar shake alternative to revive their iconic landmark for decades to come. If you are facing the same dilemma of replacing an aging cedar roof on a cherished building, CeDUR Composite Shakes check all the boxes for looks, performance, safety, and affordability. Our expert roofing crews consistently deliver successful re-roof projects within budget that stand the test of time. Contact us today to discuss how we can help preserve your own piece of history with the unmatched benefits of CeDUR.

Natural untreated cedar is a non-fire rated material, which means it burns unless chemicals are added to it to make it a class B fire retardant material. This means that your shingle cannot be treated with chemicals to prevent insects, birds, mold, mildew, moss, and shake curl. This means annual maintenance every year with a sealer to minimize the affect of weather on the wood as well as replacing splitting shingles, possible power washing to remove moss and mildew. The maintenance of a cedar roof runs $500 to $2500 twice a year (before and after our wet winters). Cedar shingles will still discolor over time to a light gray color and need to be replaced in 15 to 20 years under good conditions. However, if you have been impressed with the beauty of the cedar shingle roofs you have seen up until now, let us introduce you to CeDUR, a composite shake shingle that looks like real cedar, and with all of the benefits you had wanted with cedar shakes, and the product you have seen in all of the roofs featured here. CeDUR shake shingles do not warp, get insect infestations, have animals pecking on them, grow mold, mildew or moss and are zero maintenance. They are Class A fire retardant the highest rating possible. They also come with a 50 year warranty. So a CeDUR roof might be the last roof you ever buy for your home. CeDUR shingles lighten up during the first 90 days as they develop their final color, but then they maintain that same look for the rest of their 50 year life. We have done historical buildings that had to have a roof that looks like cedar shake, but the maintenance became a financial strain for them, so we were able to replace their roof with CeDUR. CeDUR is headquartered here in the Pacific Northwest. Call today and join our list of happy customers.

OLD AURORA COLONIAL MUSEUM

The Colonial Museum needed a new roof. Their existing cedar shake roof was 27 years old and had begun leaking at year 15. Multiple areas were failing, with moss buildup across the entire surface. The board wanted to address ongoing maintenance issues with a long-lasting, low-upkeep roof that maintained the aesthetic look of real wood shakes. After researching roofing alternatives like CeDUR composite shakes, the museum selected our company as the installer. As a CeDUR preferred contractor, we have extensive experience with these revolutionary synthetic shakes that perfectly mimic the look and texture of natural cedar. The museum’s existing chimneys posed water infiltration challenges compounded by failing mortar and brick. Our chimney contractor fully reworked the masonry to integrate proper flashings into the new CeDUR roof. The completed CeDUR synthetic shake roof restored the timeless beauty of real cedar shakes to this historic building, while solving ongoing leaks and other roof problems once and for all. The museum board is thrilled with the project and can now focus resources on their preservation mission. We welcome inquiries from other owners facing similar roof replacement decisions on historic homes and buildings. CeDUR provides the perfect blending of natural wood aesthetics and 21st century roofing technology. RICK RILEY

When Rick’s roof started failing after 17 years, he knew it was time for a replacement. Doing research on new roof options, he looked into both natural cedar shakes and alternatives. Rick lives in rainy, windy Damascus Oregon where moss buildup was ruining his current wood shakes. When he came across CeDUR shakes, Rick was impressed by their technical strengths tailored to his climate’s wet conditions. CeDUR’s material resists moss growth, eliminating the deterioration that was degrading his cedar roof. Wind tunnel tested to 115MPH, CeDUR exceeded his area’s high wind speeds. And unlike natural wood shakes with fire retardant treatment that are fire class B, CeDUR shakes have a Class A Fire rating the highest rating available. Our roofing company installed the CeDUR composite shakes on Rick’s complex 12/12 residential roof using specialized reach lift equipment. The finished product maintained the handsome cedar appeal Rick wanted, while the 50-year warranty ensures no ongoing maintenance issues. Finally, his roof was protected from rainfall, wind gusts and fire.
